Learn to kayak with a 4 hour American Canoe Association Intro to Kayaking course on Sunday, 20 June from 2:00 – 6:00 pm at Bald Eagle State Park.
This course is for teens (age 12+) and adults. All minors must be accompanied by a responsible adult who is also registered for the course. Advanced registration is required.
Kayaks and lifejackets will be provided.
Participants can expect to spend time reviewing boating safety including weather, site, and personal preparation for paddling. Participants will be required to wear a properly fitting, properly fastened lifejacket at all times while on the water. Our session will start with some land-based instruction and boat fitting.
Once everyone has been fitted into an appropriate kayak we will paddle a short distance from shore, flip our kayaks, wet exit, and return briefly to shore. Once everyone is confident in their abilities to get out of their kayaks easily in the event of an accidental flip, we will work on paddle strokes and maneuvers.
Participants should be in good physical conditioning and will be required to sign a liability waiver.
